Summary

Areas of your environment you can check or update to ensure Sage 50 Payroll Ireland runs correctly.

Resolution

Windows updates and required components

  • Windows Updates: Install all available Windows updates. If you see Windows-related errors during installation, update Windows, then reinstall Sage 50 Payroll Ireland and restart your computer
  • Internet Explorer: Even if you use other browsers, make sure you've installed the latest version of Internet Explorer

Permissions and User profiles

User Profiles

  • Log on with a different user profile to check if the issue is account-specific
  • Log in to another computer with the same profile to see if the issue is computer-related

If the issue only occurs on one computer, run a Windows scan using sfc /scannow

Data Location

  • If the data is on a server, and performance is slow, move it temporarily to the local computer
  • If payroll works locally, check server permissions and access rights
  • Ensure users have full access to all Sage Payroll folders and files

User/Administrator Access Rights & UAC

  • The Windows user needs to have full administrator rights
  • Lack of permissions can cause settings or favourites not to save

Antivirus, firewall and security

Unrestricted Access

  • Ensure Sage Payroll and related folders run unrestricted by antivirus or firewall software
  • Check these directories:
    • Program directory
    • Data directory
    • Logs directory
    • Software updates directory
  • If any tasks are slow or fail:
    • Disable your anti-virus/firewall temporarily. Some programs like BitDefender or ESET need uninstalling
    • Test data on the local machine
    • Close non-essential programs and services
    • Use a wired internet connection instead of wireless
    • Check system resources meet minimum requirements

Safe Mode

Boot Windows in Safe Mode to load only essential drivers and processes. If Sage 50 Payroll Ireland works in Safe Mode, third-party software or drivers are causing the issue.

Printing Issues

  • Install or update a compatible printer driver
  • Change the default printer to XPS Document Writer or CutePDF to test

Sage websites and servers

  • Sage 50 Payroll Ireland needs unrestricted access to certain URLs for tasks like submissions
  • Add these URLs as trusted sources in antivirus and browser settings

Network Monitoring

Third-party applications

If issues occur after an update, check if any third-party apps need reconfiguration to work with the new Sage 50 Payroll Ireland files.
