To upgrade your software to the latest version, locate your current installation and payroll data.

Check where your software is installed

If you can open Sage Payroll

  1. Open your software and log in to a payroll as normal.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your window, click Help then click System Information.
  3. Make a note of the Program Directory link. This is where Sage Payroll has installed the software.
  4. To close Sage Payroll, click Login then click Exit.

If you can't open Sage Payroll

  1. From the Windows desktop, right-click the relevant tax year option of your payroll software then click Properties.
  2. Click Open File Location. The folder where Sage Payroll has installed the software opens automatically.

Check where your payroll data is held

 TIP: Your data is held on your computer if the Data Directory shows a local C drive path, for example, C:\Program Data\Sage Payroll. 

If you can open Sage Payroll

  1. Open your software and log in to a payroll as normal.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your window, click Help then click System Information.
  3. Make a note of the Data Directory link. This is where your Sage Payroll data is held.
  4. To close Sage Payroll, click Login then click Exit.

If you can't open Sage Payroll

  1. From the Windows desktop, right-click the relevant tax year option of your payroll software. Then click Properties.
  2. Click Open File Location.
  3. Locate and right-click the file dataloc.ini, then go to Open with and click Notepad.
  4. When the file opens in Notepad, make a note of the path specified. This is where your Sage Payroll data is held.
  5. To close dataloc.ini file, click File then click Exit.
