Summary
Description
At year-end and over the festive period, you may need to manage specific payroll tasks, such as holiday pay, small benefits, or early payments. These tips help you handle the most common scenarios in Sage 50 Payroll Ireland.
Record a Small Benefit Exemption
You can process Small Benefit Exemption payments in Time and Pay to report them to Revenue.
A Small Benefit Exemption isn’t a cash payment. You need to add a nett deduction so it doesn’t appear in nett pay.
Set up and process holidays
If an employee’s holiday spans year-end and includes a payday in the new tax year:
- Process advance pay for the holiday weeks in 2025
- Process the first week in 2026 separately
- Process holidays over year-end
Pay your employees at Christmas
Revenue counts the bank holiday as the payday if it falls on your normal pay date. Funds must reach the employee’s account the day before the bank holiday.
Add a festive message to your payslips
You can add a payslip note in Sage 50 Payroll Ireland to wish your employees a Merry Christmas or Happy New Year.
Reward your staff
You can use the Gift Cards option in Sage 50 Payroll Ireland to purchase One4all vouchers for employees as seasonal rewards.
Record SSP
During winter, it's common for employees to pick up sickness bugs. Process statutory sick pay to record sick pay accurately in Sage 50 Payroll Ireland.
