Edit a cash payment (CP) transaction
Description
Cause
Resolution

NOTE: Foreign currency transactions - You can only edit non-critical fields on foreign transactions, if you need to amend a critical field, delete and re-enter the transaction.

  1. Click Transactions and click the cash payment you want to edit, then click Edit.

If the Edit option is disabled, this maybe due to a known issue when the search returns only one result. As a work around, instead of using a search or filter, use the Find option. Read more >

  2. Edit the transaction details as required.

To edit certain fields, you may have to click Edit again.

  3. Once complete, click Save then click Yes.

What happens when you edit a cash payment

What happens to the cash payment depends on whether you edit a critical or non-critical field.

Critical fieldFor example: Date, Net amount, Tax Code etc.
  • This creates a new deleted transaction with the original details.
  • The original transaction shows with the amended information.
  • If you amend a critical field on a VAT reconciled transaction, this posts a new cash receipt to reverse the effect of the original transaction, plus a further cash payment with the new details.
Non-critical fieldFor example: Reference, Details etc.

This changes the original transaction and doesn't create a new transaction.

NOTE: If you are unable to edit a transaction, this is because on some transactions there are restrictions. For example, automatic transactions, older journal entries, VAT reconciled transactions etc. Instead you must reverse and, if required, repost them correctly. Find out more >
