Revenue Payroll Notifications (RPNs) for new starters
Description

It's quick and easy to request an RPN for any new employees before you pay them. This creates the employment on Revenue's records and makes an RPN available.

Before you start

Before you can retrieve an RPN for a new employee, you must:

  1. Create an employee record in Sage Payroll.
  2. Set the employee's tax status to Emergency and, if applicable, enter their PPS number.
    NOTE: If the employee hasn't worked in Ireland before, they need to register their first employment via the MyAccount portal on Revenue's website.

Request an RPN

You can then request an RPN for the new employee using the Retrieve RPNs option in Sage Payroll.

NOTE: We recommend that you encourage the employee to contact Revenue immediately if they don't receive an RPN after two to three weeks.
