ERROR: 'Error opening PAYDATA'
Description

When opening Sage 50 Payroll Ireland, the following message appears:

'Error opening PAYDATA

Check the data location

Sage 50 Payroll Ireland opens your payroll from the data directory. The program shows this error when it cannot find the correct payroll folder. Check the folder before you continue.

  1. Log in to the Admin account.
  2. Go to Help, then select System Information.
  3. Select the Data Directory link.
  4. Locate the folder that matches your payroll name.
  5. Restore your latest backup in the Admin account if the folder is missing.
  6. Continue to the next section if the folder exists.

Reinstall the latest version of Sage 50 Payroll Ireland

Sage 50 Payroll Ireland needs the full program files for your tax year. You must reinstall the software if the program folder for the current tax year is missing.

 CAUTION: Update the server first if you use a client/server setup. 


Run the SBD repair

The SBD repair rebuilds the program files that Sage 50 Payroll Ireland uses when it opens.

  1. Right-click the Sage 50 Payroll Ireland icon.
  2. Select Open file location.
  3. Double-click SetupSBD.exe.
  4. Select Repair Install.
  5. Select Next, then Finish.
  6. Double-click the Sage 50 Payroll Ireland icon.

Check the path in dataloc.ini

Sage 50 Payroll Ireland reads dataloc.ini to find your payroll data. You must confirm the path is correct.

  1. Right-click the Sage 50 Payroll Ireland icon, then select Properties.
  2. Select Open file location.
  3. Find dataloc.ini, then open it in Notepad.
  4. Confirm the path exists and your Windows permissions allow access.

Avoid the Windows Everyone group. Contact your IT support if you need to update permissions.


Check your Windows permissions

Your computer may block Sage 50 Payroll Ireland from opening the data directory if your Windows profile changed. You must confirm you still have full access.
