Description

This message may appear when you start the Sage data service, after installing an update.

'Error 1053 - The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'

Let's resolve it now.

Error occurs when trying to stop the service

Using Task Manager

  1. Right click the Windows Taskbar then click Task Manager or Start Task Manager.
  2. Click the Processes tab.
  3. Browse to the service, for example, Sage 50 Accounts Service v29.
  4. Right click the highlighted process, then click End task or End Process.
  5. If prompted, click End process.
  6. Return to services.msc and click refresh.

    The status column is now blank. 

    NOTE: When in Task Manager, if Sage Data Exchange is appearing click End Task next to that too.

Using the command prompt

  1. Press the Windows Key and type cmd then right click the cmd.exe and click Run as administrator.
  2. Enter the following, depending on your version:
    Sage Accounts v29 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v29.exe
    Sage Accounts v28 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v28.exe
    Sage Accounts v27 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v27.exe
    Sage Accounts v26 Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v26.exe
  3. Press Enter.

Try restarting the data service. If the problem persists, please install any required updates as explained below.

Download and install the latest update available for your version of Sage Accounts.

Try restarting the data service. If the problem persists, please proceed to the next section.


Error occurs when trying to start the service

Check .NET settings

NOTE: If you can't access any of the folders below, please speak to your IT support person to arrange the necessary folder permissions. 

  1. Stop your data services.
    NOTE: Ensure both Sage 50 Accounts Service and Sage 50 Accounts Control, relevant to your version e.g v29, are stopped.
  2. Browse to C:\Windows\Temp \.Net and delete any folders that refer to the Sage Control Service, for example: Sage.UK.Accounts50.Data.Service.Control_v29.

If the problem persists, continue to the next step.

Check that Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed on your computer:

  1. Hold down the Windows key  and press R then type appwiz.cpl and click OK, click Turn Windows features on or off and select the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 check box, so it shows as  or  .
  2. Check that Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or above installed on your computer. To do this:
  3. Windows 7, Windows Vista - Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and features > check if Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 appears.
  4. Windows 8 and above - Press the windows key + R > type control > OK > Programs and Features > Turn windows features on or off > enable Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or above.
  5. If you haven't installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or above, you can download and install it from www.microsoft.com
  6. If you have installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or above, you should install all appropriate Windows updates.
  7. Reinstall the required service pack or update that prompted the message.

Try restarting the data service. If the problem persists, reinstall the Sage Accounts Data Service.
