The service is stuck in a starting or stopping

CAUTION: This should be done as a last resort. If the service is in use, it can cause data corruption. The safest way to restart these services is to reboot your computer, or the computer which is holding your data.

If the service state seems to be stuck on either starting or stopping, you can follow the steps below to force the service to stop and try again. Alternatively, you can restart the machine mentioned in the error message. If you're unsure about restarting your server, please speak to your IT administrator.

Stopping the service using Taskkill

You can stop the service using the Taskkill command in the command prompt, however, if the service is in use, this can cause corruption. This should be done as a last resort, and you must check your data once you're back in Sage 50 Accounts.

  1. Press the Windows Key and type cmd then right-click the Command Prompt app and click Run as administrator.
  2. Enter the following, depending on your version:
    Sage Accounts v30Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc.exe
