Before you start

NOTE: If you want to move the data onto a new computer that is replacing your old computer, please follow our alternative guide.

Move your data to a new location

  1. Create a new folder on the computer you want to move your data to, share the folder and ensure that all relevant users have Modify permissions allowed.
  2. If you don't have the software installed on the computer where your data is stored, such as a server, you must install the relevant Sage Data Service onto it.
  3. Find your existing Sage Accounts data directory, then browse to and copy the Company folder that contains the ACCDATA folder, for example Company.000.
  4. Paste the folder into the new folder you created in step 1.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for any additional company you want to move.

You've now copied your data to the new location. Your next step is to amend the Sage 50 Accounts data path.

Amend the data path

  1. On the computer where you access Sage 50 Accounts, press the Windows key + E.
  2. Browse to the file called COMPANY in the relevant folder path below:
    Version Company file location
    v30 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2024
    v29 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2023
    v28 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2022
    v27 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2021
    v26 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2020
  3. Right-click the COMPANY file, click Open with then choose Notepad TIP: In Windows 10 & 11 you might need to click More Apps first in order to see the option for Notepad.
  4. Change the paths in the COMPANY file to point to the new data location. You must enter the relevant UNC path for this.

EXAMPLE: If your data is on a computer called Server and your shared folder is called Sagedata, the UNC path is \\Server\Sagedata The data path should never contain ACCDATA, it should always be up to the folder which contains the ACCDATA folder.

  5. Click File, choose Save then click File then Exit.
  6. Repeat steps 1 to 4 on each computer that accesses Sage 50 Accounts.
