Get ready for the new tax year

The new tax year starts on 1 January.

Before you complete your first pay run in the new year, you need to do 2 simple tasks:

  • Renew your ROS digital certificate, if applicable
  • Retrieve new RPNs for all employees

Renew your ROS digital certificate

Your ROS digital certificate expires every 2 years. You need access to your certificate and password to log on to ROS.

If required, it's important to renew your ROS digital certificate for the 2025 tax year as soon as possible.

 NOTE: Do this after completing your December 2024 pay runs. 

You need to enter your certificate details and password in Sage Payroll when you process your first pay run.

Retrieve new RPNs for all employees

You need to retrieve RPNs for all employees. Do this when you process your first pay run of the tax year.

This ensures you deduct the correct tax, USC and LPT for each employee.

If an RPN isn’t available for an employee, you need to operate the emergency basis of income tax and USC for them.
