Minimum Employee Code Length and Automatically Create New Employee Code
Description

You can specify whether employee codes should automatically be generated for the payroll, and what the minimum employee code length should be from:

  • Company/Payroll > Company Details > Employee tab.
Cause
Resolution
Minimum Employee Code Length

If you're using numeric employee numbers only, you should enter a value in the Minimum Employee Code Length field. This ensures that your employee codes are uniformed - which allows your payroll reports to display employees in the correct sequence and enables the easy import of information from a time management system.

If you don't specify a code length here, when you set up a new employee you must specify their full employee code, including superfluous zeroes.

NOTE: If you specify a code length, you can omit superfluous zeroes from the code. For example, suppose the Minimum Employee Code Length is set to 3. This means that you can identify an employee who has code 001 by typing 1.

Automatically Create New Employee Code

If you want Sage Micropay to automatically enter an unused employee code number whenever you create a new employee , select the Automatically Create New Employee Code check box. If you don't select this check box, you'll need to specify the new employee's code manually.

CAUTION: If your employee codes contain a leading letter, for example A0159 or ML002, the Automatically Create New Employee Code option won't work.
