Summary

How to produce a manual VAT Return in Sage Accounting.

Resolution

If you need to produce a manual VAT Return, you can do so by using a few of the reports available in Sage Accounting.

When running the return, it's important that you calculate the correct values for the boxes on your VAT Return. For which values to enter for each box, please refer to our How the VAT Return calculates help article >

When you run The Trial balance for the current VAT period this will include balances on the Sales, Purchases and VAT nominals. You’ll need to include these in your current return.

  • 2200 – VAT on Sales
  • 2201 – VAT on Purchases

Sales Nominals

  • 4000 – Sales Products (for example)

Purchase Nominals

  • 5000 – Cost of Sales Goods (for example)

NOTE: You may have customer Sales or Purchase nominal codes or use others that you have set up for use in your business. You must also be sure to total all Sales and Purchase amounts when completing your VAT Return.

You will need to use your VIES report to find the information which will enable you to complete boxes E1, E2, ES1 and ES2.

Other reports that you may find useful when manually completing your VAT Return are:

  • Sales Day Book Report
  • Purchase Day Book Report
  • Receipts and Payments Day Book Report
  • Nominal Activity Report

If you need to post manual VAT journals for your return this period, please refer to our Vat Return Journals article >
