Set up additional voluntary contributions (AVCs)

In Sage 50 Payroll Ireland, employees can make additional voluntary contributions (AVCs) to increase their pension savings beyond their standard contributions.

An AVC allows employees to top up their pension voluntarily. You record AVCs in payroll so that contributions appear correctly on payslips and in submissions to Revenue.

Step one: Set up an AVC deduction

1. Open Sage 50 Payroll Ireland and log in.
2. Go to Company/Payroll, then select Deductions.
3. 
4. Select New, then complete the following details:
   
   

   Title	Type a name, such as Pension AVC.
   Type	Select Gross.
   Sub-Type	Select Pension / RAC / PRSA.
   Pension	Choose the correct pension link.
   AVC	Select this check box.
   Multiply by the number of holiday periods	Select this if the deduction increases when processing multiple pay periods together. Available only in weekly and fortnightly payrolls.

5. Select Save, then Close.

Step two: Assign AVC details to employees

1. Go to Processing, then select Employee Details.
2. Next to Surname, select Browse, and choose the employee.
3. Open the Deductions tab.
4. Find the AVC deduction and complete these fields:
   
   

   Std. E’e Amt	Enter the fixed amount or percentage the employee contributes each period.
   E'r Contrib	Enter your company’s matching contribution, if any.

5. Select Save.
6. Repeat for each employee, then select Cancel to exit.

Step three: Check pensionable payments

If you've set AVCs as a percentage of pensionable pay, confirm that you've marked all relevant payments as pensionable.

1. Go to Company/Payroll, then select Payments.
2. Select a pensionable payment, then choose Edit.
3. Select the Include in pension calculation check box. 
4. Select Save, then repeat for all pensionable payments.
