Unable to see mapped network drives when installing Sage Payroll on a client computer (Network installation)

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

If you're installing Sage Payroll on a network, you need to decide which computer is the server, and which are the clients. Normally, you store your payroll data files on a server computer and install the Payroll software on a client computer.

Description

During the installation process, you must specify the location of your Payroll data on the server. If you don't have the required user account control (UAC) permissions to do this, you can only see local drives on the listing.

To fix this, you must:

  • Close the Payroll installer.
  • Turn off the UAC security feature and restart your computer.
  • Run the Payroll installer again.
  • Turn back on the UAC security feature and restart your computer.

You must only turn off the UAC security feature on Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10 for troubleshooting purposes. You must turn UAC back on once you've finished troubleshooting, as UAC provides an essential level of security within the operating system.

Depending on what version of Windows you're using, you must complete the steps detailed in the relevant section below:

To quickly check your current version of Windows, press the Windows key + R > type Winver > Enter.
