How Sage Accounts uses the Company file

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Sage 50 Accounts stores your data path in a file called Company, located in the Settings Directory, and accesses it when you open the software.

Resolution

The following sections explain how Sage Accounts uses the Company file.

Company file location

Find the Company file in the appropriate folder within the Accounts settings directory:

C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\20xx

Where 20xx is the year of your software. For example, 2026 is v32.

In V33 and above, the COMPANY file is in this directory: C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\vxx

The Company file is a text file with no extension, created during the initial setup of Sage Accounts. The information in the Company file depends upon the installation type.

Network Installations

On a network installation, the Company file on the server uses the same format as a standalone installation. The Company file on a client computer holds stores the network path to the data on the server.

Multi-company installations

In a multi-company setup, each company has its own Accdata to hold the data files. The Company file includes a separate line for each company. Sage Accounts displays all available companies in the Company Selection window when it opens. When you create a new company, the Company file updates automatically with the new data path.
