What if an employee goes on long-term sick leave? If the employee has no Gross pay, then payroll calculates no contributions. If the employee receives an income, then payroll calculates contributions as normal. Employees can suspend contributions through the portal. What happens when an employee leaves? Mark the employee as a leaver in Sage Payroll. NAERSA then sends an AEPN to stop contributions. If the employee is paid after leaving, they will still make contributions. The rate paid is relevant to their leave date. What if an employee turns 23 mid-year? Once the employee turns 23 and meets the other criteria, NAERSA enrols them. What if an employee turns 60 after enrolment? Employees continue in the scheme. The 23–60 rule applies only at initial assessment.
