Using a backup method for 2-factor authentication (2FA)
Description

Once you’ve set up your backup method, you can use it to reset your 2FA, or get a recovery key to log in.

Cause
Resolution
  1. Enter your email address and password.
  2. When prompted to enter a 6-digit code when logging in, select Authenticate a different way.
  3. Select Use backup method.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your backup method then select Continue.

    NOTE:

If you don't have access to your backup method or don't have one, contact Sage technical support.

You've now verified your identity, and your options are:

  • Generate recovery key, or
  • Remove device and add a new one.

The option you choose depends on whether you permanently or temporarily don't have access to your primary 2FA method.

For example, whether you've forgotten to take your phone to work compared to losing your phone.

Generate recovery key

Use this option if you only temporarily don't have access to your 2FA device.

  1. Select Generate recovery key.
  2. Copy and make a note of the recovery key.
  3. Log in to your Sage product or service using this recovery key.

Remove device and add new one

Use this option if you no longer have access to your existing 2FA device and need to set up 2FA again.

  1. Select Remove device and add new one.
  2. Select Send setup email for extra security. This sends an email to allow you to set up 2FA again. This could be for the same device or a new one.
  3. Follow the steps in the email to set up 2FA again. For help with 2FA setup, visit the set up 2-factor authentication (2FA) article.

TIP:

If you previously set up 2FA in an authenticator app, delete Sage from your authenticator app before you set it up again in the app.
