Journal reversal option
Description

If you post a journal in error, or with the wrong date or amount, it's easy to correct it by reversing the journal. One way to reverse a journal in Sage 50 Accounts is to use the journal reversal option. We'll run you through how to use this option in the steps below.

Cause
Resolution
  1. Click Nominal codes then click Journal reversal.
  2. Click Backup Now and take a backup of your data, once the backup is complete click OK.
  3. Enter the Transaction Range and Posting Information for the journals that you want to reverse then click OK.

To locate the journals that need to be reversed, you must enter the correct date. This is the transaction date and not the posting date.

TIP: If you don't know what the transaction numbers are, you can leave the transaction range as the default range to find all journals on that date.

  4. Select the journals that you want to reverse then click Reverse and click Save.

The reverse journals appear on the audit trail with the reference of REVERSE, and the detail box displays the original transaction number.

If you reverse the incorrect journals it is possible to reverse the the reverse journals, or if you have just done the reversal, restoring the backup taken previously is a better option.
