'Installation not complete' Error code 1603 and 1921 when installing
Description

When you install Sage 50 Accounts updates, you may get this error:

Let's resolve this now.

Cause
Resolution

After each step, retry the installation

End Sage data exchange task in Task Manager

Whilst the installation window is running

  1. Right-click the Windows Taskbar then click Task Manager or Start Task Manager.
  2. In the Background processes section, right-click Sage data exchange then click End task.
  3. Close Task Manager.

If the problem persists, continue to the next step.


Stop the Sage 50 Accounts service

  1. If you are still in the Installer window, click Close.
  2. Open Windows Task Manager by holding down Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  3. Click the Details tab.
  4. Right-click sg50svc_vXX.exe and click End task then click End process
     NOTE: vXX above refers to the installed version number, v27, v28, v29 etc. 
  5. Close Task Manager.

If the problem persists, continue to the next step.


Check for blank Windows System Information

Click Start and type System Information and open the system information app.

If the app is blank, then do the following:

  1. In the Windows search bar enter cmd then right-click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
  2. Type net stop winmgmt, press Enter, if asked if you want to continue press Y, then press Enter.  
    Unable to stop winmgmt?
  3. Type winmgmt /resetrepository, then press Enter.

This will report that the repository has been reset.

  1. Type net start winmgmt, press Enter,  then close the Command Prompt.
  2. Open the system information app again, and check if it's now displaying correctly.

If the problem persists, continue to the next step. 


Delete Control Service folders

Ensure the Sage Control Service has been stopped (as detailed in the step above).

Browse to C:\Windows\Temp\.Net and delete any folders that refer to the Sage Control Service, for example, Sage.UK.Accounts50.Data.Service.Control_v28.

If the problem persists, continue to the next step.


Re-install from the temp folder

  1. Press the Windows key 

    + R.
  2. Enter %temp% and click OK.
  3. In the Temp folder right-click the SageAccounts folder and click Cut.
  4. On your Windows desktop, right-click and click Paste.
  5. Return to the Temp folder and delete the full contents of the temp folder.
    NOTE: If you're unsure about this step, please contact your local IT support for help. 
  6. On your desktop, open the the SageAccounts folder then open the v28update1 or V28update2 folder.
  7. Double-click Install or Install.exe and follow the on-screen prompts to install the update.

TIP: If the installation still fails, repeat steps 1 to 5 to stop the Sage 50 Accounts service. Then browse to the %temp% folder and attempt to install from this location by double clicking the Install, or Install.exe file.
