ERROR: 'A licence for the supplied serial number cannot be found'

Check the Sage Services

Visit status.sage.com to check that the Sage Licence Service is currently available. 

Wait until the service issue resolves if the service is unavailable, then re-open Sage 50 Accounts.

If the service is available, follow the Check your registration details section.


Check your registration details

  1. Open Sage 50 Accounts, click Help and About, and make a note of the following:
    • Serial Number
    • Activation Key
    • Account Number
  2. Check these registration details are the same as stated in your order confirmation email.

    TIP: Can't find your details? You can use your Account Number and Postcode to find your serial number and activation key.

Reset the subscription key

 TIP:  Before you start, make sure you have your new licence information

  1. Hold down the Windows Key, then press E to open File Explorer.
  2. In the address bar, type C:\ProgramData\Sage\ then press Enter.
  3. Right-click SDK Licence, select Rename then rename the folder to SDK Licence OLD.

 TIP: If you can't see the folder, select View, then Show and select Hidden items

  1. In the address bar type the following relevant path:  C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\20xx  

Where 20xx is the year of your software. For example, 2026 is v32.

  1. Delete the sage.usr file.
  2. Click the button below to download the registry fix:

  3. If prompted to save the file, note the file name, then click Save.
  4. Browse to and double-click the downloaded file.
  5. Click Yes, click Yes, then click OK.
  6. Open Sage 50 Accounts and when prompted, enter your Serial number, Activation key and Account number.
