Connect a client computer to your data on your server

Resolution

We assume you've already installed your software on your client computer and have your data shared over a network.

Identify the server name

  1. On the server computer, press the Windows key Image + R, in the Open box, type cmd then press Enter.
  2. At the MS-DOS prompt type hostname then press Enter.
  3. Make a note of the name of the server computer. You'll need this in the following steps to help you connect to your client computer.
  4. To close the MS-DOS window, type exit then press Enter.

Connect to data on the server from the client computer

Sage 50 Accounts v27 and above

  1. On the client computer, open the software.
  2. In the Add a Company window click Connect - Open a company from a network location.
  3. Under Company data location click Change or Browse and find the path of your data, for example \\servername\shared folder name\Company.000 then click Continue.
  4. In the Activate program window either enter your Serial number, Account number and Activation key, or check the current registration details are correct.
  5. Click Next then click Connect.
  6. When prompted enter your Logon name and Password.

 Sage 50 Accounts v26 and below

  1. On the client computer.
  2. In the Active Setup Wizard click Use an existing company stored on your network then click Next.
  3. Click Browse or type the path to your data, for example \\servername\shared folder name\Company.000 then click Next.
  4. In the Activate program window either enter your Serial number, Account number and Activation key, or check the current registration details are correct.
  5. Click Next then click Connect.
  6. When prompted enter your Logon name and Password.
